Good for personalization, minor issue

I signed up for Customer.io to really boost our email marketing and tried out the Visual Workflow Builder for some complex campaigns. The personalization options using Liquid Templating are truly powerful; I could segment users down to their last interaction. Setting up the workflows was intuitive enough, but I did notice a small delay in event tracking reflecting in the dashboards sometimes. It wasn't a deal-breaker, but it meant I had to double-check my data a bit more often than I'd like. Overall, it's a solid platform for targeted messaging, and the customer support was responsive when I had a question about API Access.

Reliable for ongoing campaigns

I've been a Customer.io user for over two years, and this latest purchase for additional profiles and In-App Messages was consistent with my past experiences. The platform remains reliable; I haven't had any major downtime issues. The interface for building out Automated Workflows is still familiar, and my team quickly adapted to the new features. It's always been straightforward to scale up as our needs grew. Their deliverability monitoring has always been top-notch, which is why I keep coming back.

Easy setup, quick results

Needed to send some transactional emails. Customer.io was simple to set up. Used the content editor. Emails went out fast. Got what I needed done.

Pretty good for our marketing

We've been using Customer.io for a few months now, mostly for their Email Marketing and Push Notifications. It's been pretty easy to get our campaigns running. I really like how you can see everything in the Reporting Dashboards, helps us figure out what's working. We got the 2 months free deal for annual billing, which was a nice bonus. Setup was mostly straightforward, and it felt pretty intuitive to get our first journey going. Had a small hiccup connecting our Segment Integration, but their docs helped me sort it out quickly. All in all, a good experience so far.

Great value with startup discount

As a first-time buyer, I was looking for the best bang for my buck. I applied for the startup program and got a significant discount for the first year, which was a huge relief. We started with the basic Journeys and SMS Marketing features. The value for the price we paid was excellent, especially considering the robust Message Personalization capabilities. It felt like a smart investment for our small team. Without the discount, it might have been harder to justify, but with it, the features we got felt well worth the cost.

I'm already using Segment. Can Customer.io integrate with that easily or is it a huge headache?

J June D. 3 weeks ago
Super easy. They have a direct integration with Segment, that's actually one of their selling points. All your Segment data just flows right in.

D Derek 3 weeks ago
No headache at all, that's literally what Segment is for. It's a pretty common setup to feed data from Segment into customer.io.

Any experience with their HIPAA compliance add-on? Thinking of using them for a healthcare app and that's critical.

N Nina Y. 4 weeks ago
I haven't personally used it, but I know they offer it as an add-on. you'd need to talk to their sales team to get that set up and ensure it meets your specific needs.

my company is in a regulated industry and we had to go through their whole process for data privacy. it's an extra layer of security and compliance they offer, not standard out of the box.

How does Customer.io compare to Iterable? I'm trying to decide between the two for a new project.

D Derek F. 1 month ago
Both are pretty similar in terms of features, strong automation and personalization. Iterable might be slightly more enterprise-focused, while Customer.io feels a bit more accessible for growing teams, but it's a close call.

N Nina 1 month ago
I looked at both. Customer.io felt a bit easier to get started with the visual workflow builder. Iterable is also good, maybe a bit more complex for specific use cases. Depends on your team's comfort level with building things out.

How do they charge, by profiles or emails sent? I'm trying to figure out what my bill would look like.

G Greg G. 1 month ago
It's mainly by profiles, like active customer profiles. Emails are kind of secondary to that, but the core pricing is based on how many people you have in your system.

R Rachel A. 1 month ago
afaik, it's profile-based. you get a certain number of profiles included in your plan, and then it scales up from there. check their pricing page for the exact tiers.

Thinking of switching from Mailchimp. Is Customer.io really worth the extra cost? What's the main difference?

S Sam 1 month ago
totally different beasts. mailchimp is good for newsletters, but customer.io is all about triggered stuff and really personalizing messages based on what users do. way more powerful for automation.

P Paula 1 month ago
yeah, if you're trying to do complex journeys and segment people by their actual behavior on your site/app, customer.io blows mailchimp out of the water. it's not just bulk emails, it's about individual customer paths.

Is it possible to pay monthly or do they force you into annual plans? I prefer not to lock in for a year.

S Sophie 1 month ago
You can definitely pay monthly. But if you pay annually, you usually get a discount, like 2 months free I think.

P Phil Osei 1 month ago
yeah, monthly is an option. most SaaS platforms give you a better deal for committing yearly though, so consider that if budget allows.

Does Customer.io have a free trial? I wanna try out the journeys and stuff before committing.

F Faith 1 month ago
Yep, they do. I signed up for one a while back to kick the tires. Gives you enough time to see if it fits.

P Priya Beaumont 1 month ago
pretty sure there's a free trial option. it's a good way to test the waters with your own data without having to pay upfront.

Are there any referral bonuses if someone I recommend signs up? Thinking of telling a friend about it.

B Beth H. 1 month ago
I think they have an agency partner program that gives credits, and sometimes referral bonuses pop up, but you'd have to check their current offers. They don't always advertise it super openly.

C Cody J. 1 month ago
Yeah, they do have referral codes sometimes. Best to ask your account manager or check their site for current programs.
